u.s. grant hotel
from comic-con posted in comic books by speedy_dee
The precursor to the San Diego Comic-Con International, known as the Golden State Comic-Con, was first held at the U.S. Grant Hotel from August 1–3, 1970.
The hotel was originally built in 1922 by Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. (son of president Ulysses S. Grant) who named the hotel after his father. The hotel is now on the U.S. National Register for Historic Places (probably not for its role in comic history, but should be).

Just to keep things interesting, they built the new Sunnydale High School in season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer right on top of the hellmouth in the same spot as the old Sunnydale High School that was destroyed at the end of season 3 (15-year-old spoiler... sorry).
Exteriors were filmed on the campus of California State University, Northridge.
vulcan
from star trek posted in television by nevereatshreddedwheat
Vulcan is a prairie town in Alberta, Canada. It was named after the Roman god of fire, but the small town of less than 2,000 people has since decided to capitalize on the fact that it shares a name with Spock's fictional home planet Vulcan in Star Trek.
For over twenty years they have hosted the Spock Days Star Trek convention. They built a replica of the Starship Enterprise, and at the Tourism and Trek Station you can see some Star Trek memorabilia and presumably also find out about the history of the town's grain-based economy.
