bonnie and clyde ambushed here
from bonnie and clyde posted in movies by donkeyoti
The 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde shocked the world when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway died in slow-motion as a hail of bullets riddled their bodies.
The real outlaws, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, were ambushed at this intersection by a possee of lawmen at 9:15 am on May 23, 1934. The possee had specially ordered Browning Automatic Rifles with armor piercing rounds for the occasion.
The outlaw couple had approximately 130 rounds shot at them, with various accounts stating that they were each hit with between 25-50 bullets.
At this location is a marker dedicated to the event that has been badly damaged by souvenir hunters.

woody guthrie boyhood home
from woody guthrie posted in music by pete_nice
Previously located at this now vacant lot was the boyhood home of Woody Guthrie. Named the London House for the previous builder/owner, the home was built in the early 1800's.
It was purchased in 1962 by local booster Earl Walker who hoped to restore it to honor Guthrie. However, due to Guthrie's political views, Walker had difficulty in securing funding for the project. The city council also forced Walker to tear down the house in the late 70's due to people using it as a drinking haunt.
Walker kept the original boards that constructed the house, and an ongoing plan is in the works to recreate the Guthrie house in Okemah from the salvaged material.
