ocean star offshore drilling rig museum
from oil industry, petroleum posted in technology by corporate_sunshine
Ever wonder how they get all that delicious "texas tea" out from the ocean floor?
Ever wish that they had a museum showing the massive industrial-scale technology necessary to keep up your environmentally destructive lifestyle?
Guess what? They do! It's in Galveston, Texas.
The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum is comprised of three main portions.
1.) The Museum and Education portion has a full derrick set-up, and also a blowout preventer, drill pipe, and a cementing unit (bring your camera)!
2.) The Offshore Pioneers Hall of Fame features the bold visionaries who were willing to see the profit in exploiting a volatile, finite natural resource (hint: there's a President in their Hall of Fame)!
3.) Educational Programs to enhance public knowledge, which even includes "field trips and overnight and summer camps." Bring your hard hat, Jimmy! This here's a working vacation.
jesse pinkman’s house
from breaking bad posted in television by chewing_the_scenery
In season 3, Jesse lowballed his parents and bought Aunt Ginny's old house at 9809 Margo Street for half of what they were asking for. Blackmail over a former basement meth lab is a keen negotiating strategy. That was when he was 45 days clean and sober. By season 4 he was using again and the house became a 24-hour meth-fueled party / skid row.

johnie’s coffee shop
from miracle mile, reservoir dogs, the big lebowski posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
Not to be confused with the popular filming location Johnie’s Broiler, Johnie's Coffee Shop in Los Angeles is also an example of the futuristic Googie style of architecture that dates back to the 1950s.
It was featured most prominently in Miracle Mile when Anthony Edwards takes a random phone call in the phone booth outside and learns about an upcoming nuclear war.
It's also where Tim Roth (Mr. Orange/Freddy) meets with his supervisor Holdaway in Reservoir Dogs after he gets on the inside with Joe's crew and where Walter and The Dude talk about the severed toe in The Big Lebowski.
Other movies where you can see the restaurant, which closed in 2000, are Volcano, American History X, City of Angels, Very Bad Things and probably many more.
toluca substation
from reservoir dogs posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
In Reservoir Dogs, Freddy / Mr. Orange rehearses part of his drug story in front of L.A.'s Toluca Substation. The substation, and the Belmont Tunnel next to it, dates back to the 1920s, leftover from the Pacific Electric Railway line that ran from downtown Los Angeles to Westlake. You can find the tunnel (now sealed) and the substation (now cleared of the graffiti) behind the Belmont Station Apartments that were completed in 2008.
