thomas jefferson high school
from janis joplin posted in music by donkeyoti
Janis Joplin went to high school at this location when it was known as Thomas Jefferson High School (now known as Thomas Edison Middle School).
By most accounts, Joplin was an awkward teenager and used music as an outlet.

Janis Joplin attended the Woodrow Wilson Junior High school for grades 7-9. The actual building was badly damaged in 2005 when Hurricane Rita struck. One wing was devastated and was closed off to students for safety reasons.
In 2006, it was demolished to make way for the Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center on the Lamar State College-Port Arthur campus.

from built to spill posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat
Christmas, Twin Falls, Idaho is her oldest memory
She was only two
It was the first time she felt blue
Cafeteria, Harrison Elementary
Beneath a parachute
I saw her without shoes
7UP I touched her thumb and she knew it was me
Although she couldn't see
Unless of course she peeked
My mom's good she got me out of Twin Falls, Idaho
Before I got too old
You know how that goes
That's where she still was the summer she turned 17
In 1983, three weeks after me
Last I heard was she had twins or maybe it was three
Although I've never seen
But that don't bother me
target
from career opportunities posted in movies by chewing_the_scenery
This is the former Target location where the early-90s not-classic Career Opportunities was filmed. In case you missed this one, Frank Whaley, during his first shift as night janitor, gets locked in Target overnight with Jennifer Connelly.
Before Target moved out of this building, they hosted Career Opportunities night once a year featuring roller skating and where fans of the movie (men wearing 'Darnell' jumpsuits and women with heavy eyebrows) would slow dance next to the aquariums.*
*I made that up. There are no fans of this ridiculous movie.
