sealand of the pacific (former)

from blackfish (2013) posted in movies by pete_nice

The outdoor marine park named Sealand of the Pacific was located at the Oak Bay Marina in South Oak Bay, Vancouver. One of its main attractions was the orca ("killer whale") show.

In February of 1991, an animal trainer drowned during an orca show at the facility. According to the 2013 documentary film Blackfish, the orca named Tilikum pulled the trainer into the water. The park folded later that year, and the remaining orcas were sold to SeaWorld Orlando.

Description of the facilities and treatment of the orcas were theorized as reasons for Tilikum's behavior, which are discussed in detail in the film.

marvel bullpen (1960s)

from marvel comics posted in comic books by nevereatshreddedwheat

Marvel Comics moved their offices from the Empire State Building to Madison Avenue in the 1960s. They were located here at 635 Madison Avenue during the Silver Age of Comic Books. In the early 70s they moved down the street and spent the Bronze Age at 575 Madison Avenue where they would stay until the early 1980s.

In Fantastic Four #10 (1963) Doctor Doom visited Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as they worked on Madison Avenue. Doom's evil meta plan was to force Lee to summon Fantastic Four's Reed Richard to the office in order to capture him.

Most artists, including Kirby, would have worked from home at that time, so a Marvel Bullpen where artists and writers collaborated together in one space, along with the idea of Lee and Kirby sharing an office, was largely Lee's invention.

bonnie parker’s grave

from bonnie and clyde, american outlaws posted in history by donkeyoti

Although Bonnie and Clyde wanted to be buried together, Bonnie Parker's family would have nothing to do with it.

Funeral services were held separately for Bonnie Parker at McKamy-Campbell Funeral Home on May 26, 1934. It was a Saturday, and over 20,000 people attended the funeral. The funeral director's son recalls cards being sent by Pretty Boy Floyd and John Dillinger.

Although originally buried in Fishtrap Cemetery, Bonnie Parker was moved to Crown Hill Memorial Park in 1945. She was 23 years old.

Her epitaph reads:
"As the flowers are all made sweeter by the sunshine and the dew, so this old world is made brighter by the lives of folks like you."
