cafe sosa borello

from beastie boys posted in music by crabapple

The exterior of the Midtown West talian-Argentinean cafe, Sosa Borella, is used in the Beastie Boys video "Ch-Check It Out" off their 2004 release To The 5 Boroughs.

In this portion of the video, some snooty cafe-goers attack the Beastie Boys with a baguette and a fight ensues.

Also in the video, a fight occurs at the doctor's office, on the street between the Beastie Boys dressed as Star Trek ensigns, and on an airboat as the crew is dressed in 70's era Wild Kingdom outfits with a swamp blue-screen background. I didn't say it makes sense...

Cafe Sosa Borello currently has a 96% approval rating on UrbanSpoon.

paul’s boutique

from beastie boys posted in music by donkeyoti

The cover of the breakthrough album "Paul's Boutique" by the Beastie Boys was taken outside of this location in 1989.

Couple of quick facts:
1. This location was a restaurant called the Three Monkeys when it caught ablaze on Jan. 20, 2011.

2. At one point it was a restaurant named "Paul's Boutique" (well after the album came out).

3. When the cover photo for the album was taken, the Paul's Boutique sign was added to the current exterior of the existing junk shops.

4. This album still rules.
