After seeking an unorthodox cancer treatment in Germany for eight months, Bob Marley was returning to Jamaica when his flight stopped in Miami.
He was taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention. He died at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami (now University of Miami Hospital) on the morning of May 11, 1981, at the age of 36. The cancer had spread to his lungs and brain.
His final words to his son Ziggy were:
"Money can't buy life".
