tiny naylor’s (former)

from beastie boys posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat

The photo on the cover of the Beastie Boys album Ill Communication was shot by acclaimed photographer Bruce Davidson at Tiny Naylor's on the corner of Sunset and La Brea in 1964. It was originally part of a set of photos intended for Esquire magazine that were never published.

The drive-in restaurant, an example of California's futurist Googie architecture, was opened by the 6'4" 320 lbs. W.W. Naylor in the 1950s. It closed in the '80s and was torn down to make way for a strip mall after a proposal failed that would have designated it as a cultural landmark.

from big l posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat

The photo on the cover of Big L's 1995 debut Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous was taken on the corner of Lenox Avenue and West 139th Street in Harlem.

peoples market album cover

from clutchy hopkins, misled children posted in music by nevereatshreddedwheat

The photo on the cover of the Clutchy Hopkins / Misled Children album Peoples Market was shot on the corner of Lincoln and 7th St. in Victorville, California. I have no idea what the Peoples Market was, but like everyone else I also don't know much about hip hop instrumentalist Clutchy Hopkins either. Rumor is it's a pseudonym for either DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Money Mark or MF Doom.
